Back-to-back defeats for Keith after ten-match unbeaten run as Wick Academy strike late at Harmsworth Park
A fierce wind at Harmsworth Park, especially in the first half, didn’t help Keith’s cause as they tried to bounce back from having lost their impressive 10 game unbeaten run to Buckie a few days earlier.
As a result, the Maroons lost out in their bid to win at Wick for the first time in 13 years, two late goals doing the damage.
With the ball flying about everywhere except where it was supposed to go, both goalies pulled off fine saves. First, Craig Reid was at full stretch in the ninth minute to deny Ross Gunn, then five minutes from the break Scorries ‘keeper Graeme Williamson brilliantly parried James Brownie’s well struck 18-yarder.
Then, with seconds of the first half remaining goalie Reid almost caught out his counterpart with a wind assisted kick up the famous Harmsworth slope, Williamson having to quickly tip the ball over the bar.
The wind wasn’t so much in evidence after half-time, but neither side looked like making the breakthrough until Gordon McNab wheeled, made space for himself and fired a low drive past Reid in the 74th minute.
Any chance of earning a share of the spoils was hit a minute from the end when a rare Lewis Coull slack pass back allowed Marc Macgregor to nip in and give Reid no chance from six yards, sewing up a home win.
