Vale keeper Ryan Brindle had to tip over an effort from Thistle's on-loan Forres Mechanics player Harvey Henderson.

Neil Moir was next to be denied by the visiting keeper in the Logie Park clash.

Jags' challenge was hampered when experienced striker Matty Fraser limped off injured.

Vale almost netted on the stroke of half time but James Stables' effort was punched away by Forres keeper Daniel McLeod.

A minute after the break, Thistle threatened when Henderson broke down the right and played in Neil Owen, whose lob went just past.

Two minutes later Islavale took the lead, Brodie Christie meeting a cross from the left with an unstoppable finish from 18 yards.

Christie then headed over while at the other end, Henderson fired just over for the home team.

It was 2-0 on the hour mark with Christie netting his second with a header from a free kick.

Forres saw their hopes ended with nine minutes left when Vale player/co-manager Robert Scott scored his third of the season with a header from a corner.

In the other match in the group, Nairn St Ninian won 6-2 at Whitehills, so Vale have a three-point lead at the top with Whitehills to play tonight.

Dufftown have made a great start with back-to-back 6-0 victories, strikers Euan Simpson and Kris Duncan in great scoring form.

In their first match against Lossie United, Simpson grabbed a hat-trick and Duncan got two goals but the roles were reversed in Saturday's clash at New Elgin.

This time Duncan netted three and Simpson two, while Logan Grant added a sixth for the dominant visitors.

Dufftown now need just a point tonight in their final group game against Burghead Thistle, who have also won their opening two group games.

Burghead beat Lossie United 2-0 thanks to goals by Jamie Davidson just before the break and Harry Allen with a second half header.

Deveronside were beaten 4-0 at Buchanhaven Hearts and face group leaders Longside tonight.
