ISLAVALE lifted their first trophy since 2017 on Sunday after a comfortable victory against Deveronside in the Elginshire Cup final.

Vale ultimately cruised to a 3-0 win against the Banff outfit but it could have been a different story if their opponents had buried a great chance early on when the score was still 0-0.

Vale made them pay for that miss by going ahead after 23 minutes with James Stables firing home after a cross from the right hand side.

The game remained finely poised well into the second half until Fergus Edwards headed Robert Scott’s freekick home to give Vale a cushion with 15 minutes to play.

The game was made safe when a Deveronside defender put the ball into the back of his own net following a cross from Ricky Henderson.

The two teams will meet again on Tuesday evening in the league with Vale going for the title and Side going for promotion.
