HUNTLY signed off a successful Highland League campaign with a 2-0 win over Rothes at Mackessack Park last Wednesday.

Goals from Andrew Hunter and Robbie Foster saw the Black and Golds leapfrog the Speysiders to finish 8th – their highest league finish since 2010.

A points total of 45 is eight higher than last season's tally, which was enough for 10th place.

Manager Allan Hale was delighted to sign off the campaign in style and improve on the 2021-22 campaign.

"It's never easy going to Rothes but it was a strong performance and the scoreline was a fair reflection of the game," he said.

"It's pleasing to end the season with a good performance and result, one against a team that was above us. Our form since Christmas has been excellent and the points return is good.

"The only aim was to beat last year's points total, that's how you define progress. It speaks volumes for our consistency levels and improvement as a group."

Andrew Hunter gave Huntly a 10th minute lead against Rothes, with Robbie Foster putting the seal on the three points 20 minutes from time.

Hale added: "We managed to get ourselves in front early. We have spoken about scoring when we start games well so that was pleasing.

"It was quite even and balanced after that and then we scored an unbelievable team goal. It started on the halfway line and ended with Robbie Foster scoring one of the goals of the season."

Huntly's summer transfer window is expected to be relatively quiet – with just a few new faces likely to be seen at Christie Park for the 2022-23 campaign.

"We are not planning to do a great deal," Hale said. "We have stability in the squad.

"There are areas where we are light in depth and quality, so we'll be looking to add two or three, but we don't need a big rebuild.

"The group has tremendous spirit at the minute, which goes a long way."
