Huntly Rugby Club is working hard to get arrangements in place that will see all players return to action in the next few weeks.

The close-contact nature of the game has meant rugby has had to be more cautious than some other sports, with a staged return to full contact rugby planned over a number of months.

Rugby will return at the school pitches with the primary 6-7 group on Saturday, August 29, with youth and adults returning to training on Tuesday, September 1, at the same venue.

The P1/3 and P4/5 groups will join the P6/7 on Saturday, September 5.

In order to keep everyone safe and provide good track and trace information, all players will be put into separate training bubbles with their own dedicated coach.

Players will be asked to register for their bubble’s training slot in advance and sessions will be staggered to keep bubbles apart.

For a club with so many players across so many teams, it will be a big logistical challenge to bring everyone back, and welcome new players, while observing social distancing and hygiene regulations.

On offer to begin with will be a touch rugby game, with different activity allowed as the club progresses through the return to play pathway.

All things being well, the club hopes to get some running into players’ legs before the more serious business begins with competitive rugby set to return at the end of October at the earliest.

Anyone returning, or looking, to get involved with rugby for the first time should go to the club website at www.pitchero.com/clubs/huntly/ and make sure they are signed up with player membership details up-to-date.

Huntly has rugby for boys and girls aged P1-P7, boys S1–S6 and both men’s and women’s adult teams.

The club is also very keen to hear from girls in the S1-6 group who want to play, or return, to the game after a break.
