HUNTLY went down to a narrow defeat in the Aberdeenshire Cup semi-final against Formartine United last night.

A penalty scored by Julian Wade in the ninth minute was enough to give United a 1-0 win and set up a final against Fraserburgh.

That penalty was won by Tyler Mykyta, who was tripped in the box. Wade placed the ball within inches inside the left upright to make it 1-0.

Huntly were well up for the match and worked hard, having a couple of 5 to 10 minute spells where they made Formartine sweat to maintain their lead.

Substitute Cameron Blacklock came near to equalising when a 64th thunderbolt that forced Ewen Macdonald to full stretch to push the ball to safety.

Huntly then won a free-kick about five yards shy of the United box but Andy Hunter's drive rebounded of a resolute home defensive wall.

Formartine will take on Fraserburgh in the final at The Haughs on September 30.

Huntly are in league action on Saturday when they welcome the Broch to Christie Park.
