Competing in the event against other north clubs, the Buckie swimmers rose to the occasion with five winning the award for best performer in their age category.

The stars of the show were top boy Riley Russell and best girl Emmie Murray. The 10-year-old pair both achieved a perfect record of five gold medals from the five events they competed in, while numerous other swimmers aged 8 to 12 picked up notable victories.

Both Riley and Emmie took gold in the 100m individual medley, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, 50m flystroke and 50m freestyle.

Amy Stewart, who is chairperson for Buckie ASC said she was delighted with her small team's results on the day.

"Riley and Emmie achieved the shield for the best local 10-year olds, winning with 100 points each - the highest points that can be awarded," she said.

"It has been many years since both these awards have been given to both our local swimmers at the same time.

"We also had quite a few new swimmers competing for the first time who also gained a medalling position, and our relay teams medalled too."

Riley and Emmie were among five Buckie swimmers awarded the best swimmer in their age group for the competition.

Sienna Ramos Duran (8) was best girl in her age group after winning the 100m individual medley, 25m flystroke, 25m backstroke and 25m breaststroke, as well as silver in the 25m freestyle.

In the boys, Cooper Beresford (8) won 25m free and 25m back to top his age category, an achievement matched by Callum Stewart (11) who won 50m back, 100m IM and 50m fly as well as silver in 50m breast and bronze in 50m free.

Other medal winners included Mila Addison (9) who won two golds in 50m back and 50m free as well as silver in 50m breast. Bethany Wood (12) won her 50m flystroke event and was second in 50m free.

Lillie Murray (12) took silver in 100m IM and 50m breast and bronze in 50m back, while Leo Forbes (9) won silver in 50m back and 100m IM, and bronze in 50m free.

Kian Geddes (9) was a double bronze medallist in 50m back and 50m breast, while there were silver medals for Rino Taylor (12) in 50m breast and Orla Imlach (11) in 50m fly.

"Not forgetting all the new personal bests achieved by our others swimmers as well," Amy added.

One of the club's older swimmers has also been making a big splash in her sport.

Madison Coull (14) recently attended the Edinburgh and Portugal international meets and was also selected for the North District squad to compete in an event in Northern Ireland.

She made the finals at these events on several occasions and her achievements have led to an invite to attend the British Championships qualifier in Sheffield.

"This is a huge achievement," Amy added. "Madison was then joined at the Scottish National Age Group meet by (fellow Buckie ASC members) Payton Forbes and Kallum Aitchison, where our younger squad got the opportunity to be kit carriers and watch Scotland’s best up-and-coming swimmers.

"We proudly also have a few on the list for the upcoming summer meet, and a few with qualifying times for the Glasgow International and the Scottish National Open."
