Turriff Thistle 1 - 0 St Marnans

The Jag claimed a single goal winner against visitors St Marnans on Saturday, who only had the short trip from Aberchirder to make to the Haughs on a dry but somewhat cold day.

In what would ultimately prove to be a win for the home side, both teams slogged it out, with the sides making solid plays towards their opponents goals, but neither being able to capitalise on them until a rebound fell to the feet of Greg Miazek late in the second half to secure the win for Turriff.

It was Thistle who made the first play of the game with Mitchell Allan making move on goal, but failing to connect to finish.

In response Saints made a move on the Turrif goal with a well placed corner from David McCallum sailing into the box, but as would be the norm for the afternoon, failed to see it connect before it bounced out for a goal kick.

Regan Fowlie was on the attack for Thistle, with a well placed throw in, in line with the edge of the box being snatched by the Saints keeper just in time.

Thistles Michael Williams enthusiasm saw him make a spirited break up the right hand wing, but ultimately ended up in a yellow card for him for taking down one of the opposing team.

With 20 minutes played, Williams would again see himself presented with an opportunity and on the edge of the box levelled a solid shot on goal, only to see it travel straight into the arms of the keeper.

Dominating the run of play, Thistle continued to press on the opposition goal, ending up in an edge of box free kick which was sent through by Fowlie, but again failed to connect.

On 25 minutes. Johnny Buist for Thistle fired home another on target attack from the left edge of the box, which the Saints keeper was lucky to get a hand to, in what would have otherwise have been a cracking opening goal to keep the score sheet clean.

With half and hour played, Williams would make the next attempt on goal with a header that just passed to the left of goal, and Greg Miazek made his first attempt at goal shortly after with a low ground ball that the keeper managed to stifle in time.

Heading towards half time, it was Kai Inglis for Saints that had a crack at breaking the deadlock with a shot from 25 yards out that unfortunately for him headed directly into the arms of keepr Jordan Ogg.

Miazek and Wiliams along with Ryan Morrison would continue to press on goal and a set up play gave Daniel Bruce one of the best shots of the match that just grazed the top of the bar.

With no score in the first half, it would be Saints that looked to set the pace in the second half.

A full 20 minutes of play backwards and forwards between the two sides finally resulted in Thistle making a strike with a header from Ryan Morrison ending up in the keepers arms again,

A Miazek shot shortly after rolled past the goal posts on the left at ground level.

Thistle continued to push and several yellow cards were forthcoming as play started to get somewhat tetchy between the sides.

It would take an edge of the box shot from Fowlie on 83 minutes to break the deadlock when it rebounded of one of the defenders to fall perfectly at the feet of Miazek who sent it sailing home with a left footer into the top of the net.

Despite further attempts on goal including a close call from Saints Andrew Payton in the final minutes which saw his header just miss the goal by inches, Turriff held on to claim the win.
