Harlaw Bowling Club take on Balgownie in the final of the Benachie League Cup on August 20 at Balgownie Green writes Mike Barron.

Fifteen teams took part in the competition and with home advantage added to their undefeated wins in three rounds, Balgownie must be strong favourites.

They beat Newmachar 6-0, Kintore 6-0, and Rothienorman 6- 0, now comes Harlaw in the final.

Harlaw have had a tougher series of matches.

They beat Belhelvie 6-0, but from then they had to fight, as the next round was against Inverurie.

These matches are always competitive, and this match was no exception.

Having both Jason and Colin Banks in the Inverurie rinks, it came down to the third rink, and Harlaw just got over the line 4-2 i.e 2 winning rinks to one.

Dyce came next, who likewise fought hard, but Harlaw again came through 4-2.

The Balgownie 3 rinks have not yet been announced but it is known that Bill Smith is in the Benachie team, and he is due to play in the final of

Benachie Singles.

Harlaw are fielding a strong team.

Doug Fraser will be skip in Rink 1.
Doug Fraser will be skip in Rink 1.

Rink 1 has Doug Fraser as skip with Alan Binnie in lead and Bruce Stewart in the middle.

Sandy McDonald has Brian Clark and Finlay Ross, while Garry Horne has George Forsyth and Fraser Ross - A strong team!

There can be no complaints regarding the final being played at the home green of Balgownie as the allocation of greens is made prior to the bowling season.

A large crowd from Harlaw is expected to travel to Balgownie for a 11.30am start on Sunday.
