JUST two years after his first competitive bout, Moray boxer Scott Edwards is a senior Scottish champ on his way to his first international fight.
The 22-year-old was crowned Scottish elite open heavyweight champion on Saturday after defeating Renfrewshire rival Cameron New in a pulsating final in Motherwell.
Edwards' reward for the biggest victory of his whirlwind career is a Scotland call-up to box in an international tournament in Serbia later this month.
The Keith distillery worker has now won 91kg Scottish novice, intermediate (twice) and elite titles, as well as being the current north district champion.
He took just ninety seconds to win his elite semi-final at the Ravenscraig sports centre two weeks ago, before becoming Elgin Boxing Club's first senior national champion in a decade, when he won last weekend's final.
"It was a great feeling, almost unbelievable," he said. "I was just ecstatic when I got the decision and I was presented with my belt."
The victory brought joy to Scott and his head coach at Elgin Boxing Club, Paul 'Ratch' Gordon who was in the heavyweight's corner just 24 hours before flying out to Australia to see his daughter Megan fight for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games.
Edwards was also watched by his mum, dad and brother in the arena, as well as girlfriend Beth Younie from Aberlour who was seeing him fight live for the first time.
The Keith boxer was also backed by a group of Moray supporters in Motherwell, many of them colleagues at Elgin ABC.
