Garioch's senior bowlers secure a strong win over Buchan

Garioch Seniors had a great home win over Buchan 70-62 writes Mike Barron.

Rink scores:- Ron Booth 15-11, Norman Burnett 20-19, Brian Reid 13-19 and Gary MacDonald 22-13.

In an exciting match there was never more than four shots between the two teams until after the 14th end.

Garioch were 19-22 at 5th end, and 57-53 at 14th.

The match lead had changed several times.

The 15th end was the key to the match when Garioch scored 7 shots to lead 62-55.

The 16th saw mixed results from all four rinks, but Garioch still had a lead of 6.

The final end was keenly fought by all four rinks, but Garioch held their nerve, hanging on, with Norman Burnett rink scoring 4 shots to claim a great victory 70-62 .

Ron Booth with Jim Grant, Ian Chalmers and Bruce Middleton were never behind.

Middleton early was on the jack and the rink kept up their lead throughout.

11-4 at the 10th was a fair reflection of the play.

Against a strong opposition their drawing was sound. and they won by 4 shots 15-11.

Sheila Reidford, Margaret Christie, Bill Barclay with Norman Burnett were 6-7 down at 5th, 11-10 up at 11th, 16-19 down at 16th but a superb final end saw them score four shots to win 20-19.

Gary MacDonald’s match was a tale of two halves. 12-12 at 10th end but from then they only lost 1 shot.

Jean Paterson, Bob Waiter and Gary Horne upped their drawing and finished comfortably 22-13.

Ian Western, Alec McCaughey, Bob Airth and Brian Reid (skip) had it tough from the start.

They were 6-16 down at 11th end, but by the last, they reduced Buchan’s lead to 13-19 down.

A competitive match played between two good bowling teams!
