Garioch set to host National Triple and Open Pair Scottish Short Mat Championships

Garioch Indoor Bowling Club is to host, for the first time, the Scottish National Triples and Open Pairs of the Scottish Short Mat Bowls Championship on Saturday February 4 and Sunday 5 write Mike Barron.

The National Triples is open only to Federation members, but the Scottish Pairs are open to all players and spectators are welcomed.

Garioch is also now the home for the Garlogie Short Mat players, and they have sessions every Friday and Sunday over winter weekends at the Club.

At the above events will be at least 17 present and past internationalists most from Garlogie entries.

Currently selected for Scotland in the World Championships, to be held at Aberdeen, are Jemma Lingard, Roy Lingard, brothers Alan and Murray Masson, Billy Fraser and Sandy McDonald.

Sandy is a superb skip having won the British Isles 4s title last year.

He has won the Garioch Short Mat titles on five occasions, including the last competition in October 2022.

There are 33 local Short mat Clubs, who play in local leagues, in the north east with many hosted in local village halls.

Many will participate in the Garioch’s own Triples and Pairs on March 11 and 12 - entry applications can be made to 01467 622622.
