The final score does not totally reflect the match.

The match was very even at end 10 with Elgin actually leading 39-38 but Garioch held their nerve, drawing well, and scoring regularly in the final ends.

The win stems from Garioch’s lightning start.

At end 2, the very experienced Elgin were blown away, and were 0-16 down. All four rinks were ahead.

Eight ends later only one Garioch rink was up.

Rink scores:-

Norman Burnett (Garioch) 18 A McCook (Elgin) 11.

Gary MacDonald 12 I Laing 16.

Ron Booth 10 A H Whyte 18.

Brian Reid 24 J Henderson 12.

The best rink in the match was that of Brian Reid, who had Joan Western, Alex McCaughey (the oldest Garioch player by over 10 years) and Bob Airth.

They were 11-0 up at 5th end, 17-5 at the 10th , and both rinks scored 7 shots before the finish. Brian Reid finished 24-12.

Gary MacDonald was against the wily, experienced skip, Isobel Laing who between the 5th and 10th ends took 10 shots against 2,

The score then 13-6 to Elgin. While Laing won 16-12, MacDonald had scored 6 shots to Laing’s 3 in the final ends.

Ron Booth, with Jim Grant, Ian Western, and Bruce Middleton had a 5 nil lead at 2nd end, but from then Henderson of Elgin hit form to be 6-5 up at 5th , 12-6 at 10th , and finished with a commanding lead 18-10.

Margaret Christie, Gordon Sievewright and Bill Barclay were with Norman Burnett, and while the match was 9-9 at 10th , the match from then was never in doubt. Burnett kept ahead and won 18-11.

The Garioch Seniors had held their nerve and finished with a fine win 64-57.

Turriff will host Garioch Seniors next week.

With four wins this season, the Seniors hope for a good finish to the year.
