Garioch senior bowlers beaten by Fraserburgh

Garioch Bowling Club seniors lost at home to Fraserburgh 53-74, writes Mike Barron.

Selector Alan Miller said: “The first half of the match was very even, but from then the wheels came off.”

The only winning rink was that of Norman Burnett with Sheila Reidford, Norman Hepburn and Arthur Murrison, who all had a steady game.

They were level at 6-6 at the fifth end. From then some fine drawing saw them lead 13-8 at the 10th end, but they then had they some close ends to still lead 16-15 at the 15th.

Fraserburgh were pegged back, and they did not score again losing to Burnett 15-20.

Gary MacDonald must be very disappointed because he led 10-3 at the fifth end, but finally lost 15-19.

From the 10th to 15th end they lost 10 shots to be 13-18, and never recovered to lose 15-19.

Level 6-6 at the fifth end Brian Reid with Jim Grant, Brian Welsh and Alec McCaughey scored six more shots to lose 12-24.

Bob Airth took over as skip, with a late call off by Ron Booth injured, and he had Frank Sinclair, Ian Chalmers and Bruce Middleton, but they were comprehensively beaten 6-16.

Both Sheila Reidford and Jean Paterson, in the team for the first time, played well.
