Garioch Indoor Bowling Centre holds competitions

Garioch Indoor Bowling Centre has in the past held two competitions per year for the short carpet bowling within its stadium, writes Bill Conn.

This commenced in 2015, and unfortunately, the Covid pandemic forced the competition to be cancelled in March 2022.

So the 13th tournament was held on October 22 and 23 with a full day of indoor bowling for each of the two days.

The entries were down from pre-covid days, but still managed 28 teams for the three bowl triples and 38 teams for the four bowl pairs on the Sunday.

Entries came from as far afield as Skye and Mallaig, though most of the entries were from Aberdeenshire clubs.

The competitions were split into two sections with a round robin in the morning and a straight knock out in the afternoon on both days.

There was a very high standard of bowling which entertained the large crowd within the lounge area.

The championship winners for the triples were Sandy McDonald, Gillian Christie from Garlogie and Kenny Alexander of Rothienorman, who won 10-3 against the Inverurie ladies team of Ivy Ross, Anne Lawless and Margaret Christie.

On the Sunday, the bowling was equally competitive and the championship winners for the four bowl pairs were Sandy McDonald and Roy Lingard of Monymusk who had a one shot difference against Kenny Alexander and Gillian Christie.
