Garioch Gents to meet West Lothian in semi-final of bowling's Scottish 4s

Garioch Gents are set to meet West Lothian in the semi-final of bowling's Scottish 4s on the weekend of March 29-31 writes Mike Barron.

The other semi features East Lothian v East Kilbride

To reach this stage Colin Banks, Mike Collister, Stuart Buist and Jason Banks, against Fraserburgh did a Houdini act in round 1, coming back from 5-15 down at the 10th end.

They never lost another shot and won 19-15.

Next came Turriff in round 2.

At end 8 the score was 5-5, 7-6 at 11th for Garioch, back level at 19th end, but the quartet got over line with a close but deserved 13-11 win.

The skip for Turriff was fellow internationalist, and former Garioch player, Connor Milne.

The quarter-final featured Elgin.

Garioch were only once behind 6-7 at 9th end, but from then to 15th steady bowling saw Garioch ahead 12-8.

Elgin came back, and the score was just 12-11 at 17th .

The final ends were keenly fought, but final bowls counted, and Garioch came home 15-12.

With two hard games played on Sunday both teams showed great skill, but when the pressure was on there were some fine drawing bowls
