Garioch bowling seniors defeated by Fraserburgh

Garioch Bowling Club seniors were beaten by Fraserburgh 49-86, writes Mike Barron.

The score does not reflect the match at The Broch because at the ninth end Garioch were only down seven shots.

It was from then that some large end losses resulted in a change, to lose by 37 shots.

The rink scores were:

  • Ron Booth 12 (Garioch) A Bruce 28 (Fraserburgh).
  • Norman Burnett 7 Brian Smith 20.
  • Gary MacDonald 14 Alec Cruickshank 21.
  • Brian Reid 16 Arthur Gammack 17.

Brian Reid, with Joan and Ian Western and Bob Airth, had a great match and were unfortunate to lose.

Lying at least three shots at the last end Gammack (Fraserburgh) drew to the jack with his final bowl to win by one shot.

Gary MacDonald, again at the last end, lost four shots in what was a close match until then. Finishing seven shots of a difference does not do justice to the Garioch rink.

Norman Burnett's rink was 4-3 up at the fifth end, and must have been satisfied with the score. From then, the four players found it difficult against a strong Brian Smith rink and lost 7-20.

Frank Sinclair, Ian Chalmers, Bruce Middleton with skip Ron Booth had a hard match and were regularly fighting to win ends. They lost by 16 shots.

Next week Garioch Seniors meet Buchan at home. The Mintlaw side beat Turriff 81-55 this week.
