AN improved performance against Fraserburgh wasn’t enough to see Huntly pick up a result at Bellslea Park on Saturday.

The Black and Golds were 1-0 down at half-time after a Ryan Sargent penalty and, 10 minutes into the second half, the game was seemingly gone when Lyall Booth was shown two yellows in two minutes.

A goal from Marc Lawrence and Sargent’s second saw the game end 3-0.

Huntly boss Allan Hale said: “We competed a lot better than we did in the Shield semi final (a 6-0 loss).

“We got more out of the players in terms of their work rate and got tighter to Fraserburgh. The one thing missing was composure in possession.

"We were panicky and had no runners behind their back four. That was a frustration.

“We tried to address that at half-time but after the red card early in second half it was damage limitation.

"The better team won so I have no complaints. The players’ attitude, application and effort was good, too.”

Lyall Booth’s suspension will give Joe Gauld, who made his debut on Saturday, the chance to make his mark in the side after signing from Forres Mechanics.

“Joe did well when he came on and has an opportunity now that Lyall is suspended,” Hale added.

“Joe is a player we know about from his loan spell where he did really well. He has a great attitude, work ethic and he’s technically a very sound footballer.

"His first week has been like he’s never been away. He can play a variety of positions, which is a bonus.”

Huntly host Lossiemouth at Christie Park on Saturday.

“I really like Lossiemouth,” Hale added. “We always give them full respect because they are a really good team with good work ethic that play for each other.

"There are no easy games in this league and it’s always tight against Lossie.”

Saturday’s game starts at 3pm.
