Formartine United scored five goals without reply against Turriff United on Saturday.

Scott Lisle, Ryan Spink, Kevin Hanratty, Tyler Mykyta and Jonathan Smith all got on the scoresheet in the Highland League encounter at North Lodge Park.

To add to a frustrating afternoon for Turriff, Ethan Smith was sent off in the second half for dissent and manager Dean Donaldson received a yellow card from referee Liam Duncan.

Formartine had an early chance through captain Graeme Rodger but his effort was saved by Turriff goalkeeper David Dey.

Turriff applied some pressure in the opening stages, however the Formartine defence was on hand to quell any danger.

The hosts took the lead when after a Turriff corner the ball got to Lisle and he bolted down the right wing, got through on goal and chipped the ball into the net over Dey.

It did not take long for Formartine to add to their tally when a free-kick hit the post and Spink was there to score the rebound in what was a quick sucker punch for Turriff.

Formartine were finding another gear with Kieran Lawrence seeing a strong shot go wide of the post and Jonathan Smith's free-kick was saved by Dey.

Mykyta's ball then found Hanratty but his shot was deflected and went out of play.

Turriff had a chance late on in the half, however Kyle Buxton could not find the target with his effort.

In the second half Lisle had an early opportunity which was wild and went out for a goal kick.

At the other end a ball was swung in by Turriff and found Matthew McDonald who tried a looping shot which did not hit the net.

Formartine, who had took their time to get going in the second half, had a couple of chances with Mykyta and Lisle unable to convert them.

Rodger then had a great opportunity with an empty net staring at him but some pressure in the box from Turriff defenders denied him and meant Formartine had to wait for their third.

That came when the ball fell to Hanratty and he slotted it into the net to make it 3-0.

Smith then received a red card before the match restarted, which made it more of an uphill task for Turriff.

Hanratty was also involved in Formartine's fourth when a good run and ball from him found Mykyta and he made no mistake with his short range shot.

The hosts were awarded a penalty in the closing stages of the game, which Jonathan Smith stepped up to take, and he scored the spot kick to cap off the victory.

Formartine manager Paul Lawson said: "First and foremost I am delighted we got the win but the manner in which we did it was very pleasing.

"I thought we created a lot of chances and probably should have scored a few more goals to be honest.

"However with five goals, a clean sheet and three points, I am very happy."

Turriff manager Dean Donaldson said after the game: "We were poor all over the pitch and we were just not at the races.

"Some of the referee's decisions in the game were also frustrating.

"We now need to focus on Fort William on Saturday and will need to be much better than that if we want to get a result."
