Fish Wishing at Lochter

Down Lochter Fishery way last week the end of an old 19th century poem came to mind and seemed quite apt when it said, “I’m only wishing to go a fishing, for this the month of May was made.”
Over 150 years later this adage still is relevant for many anglers, who got their wish as we had a gush of enthusiastic customers all week ready for some top of the water sport.
They certainly weren’t let down as consistency was the watch ward at Lochter last week with fish feeding, moving, splashing, jumping and just generally catching the eye of the casting angler.
On holiday for an extended weekend were William Olsen and Robbie Robertson from the central belt and on both their visits they were into double figures using mostly suspended buzzers of various colours.
Gary Findlay fished an evening session using buzzers, when there was a nice breeze and it served him well as he had 21 fish, including one of our recently stocked home-grown double figure fish, which tipped the scales at 15lb. A great evening fishing.
Bill Guthrie from Fife went down the traditional route, on one of the overcast days when the fish were on the surface and he had 18 fish on the olive dun, grey wulff and black gnat.
Ronnie Ewen from Macduff had 16 fish using a greenwells glory and small nymphs, Richard Parley mixed it up with CDC emergers and buzzers for 15 fish, Dante Dupitas also had this number on hoppers and emerges and Rob and Thomas Wishhart had 14 and 13 fish respectively on dry’s.
Graham Thomson did well with a klinkhammer and small black crunchers set up for his 13 fish, Bart Laurenson also had 13 this time on a fab with buzzers, Ian Syme netted 12 fish on either dry flies or buzzers and Dod Hay had 11 fish on a team of buzzers.
Graeme Duthie used a buzzer and hopper combination for 11 fish, Fred McAlley had 10 fish on either fabs or CDC’s and Paul Stewart stuck with his favourite foam beetle for nine fish.
So if you’re wishing to go a fishing:- don’t delay – pop down Lochter way.
