Buckie Ladies’ football team reached uncharted territory on Sunday by battling their way through to the first cup final in the club’s history.
Four-goal Catie Carter was the heroine of the side as she blasted through host Clachnacuddin’s defence to inspire a 5-2 Buckie win in the League Cup semi-finals in Inverness.
Manager Mel Smith was thrilled by her team’s efforts on the day and said she was proud of how far her team has come since being thrashed in the first match of their history
“Buckie Ladies started out with getting beat 21-0,” she said on the club’s Facebook page. “With hard work, dedication, commitment and passion, we are in the league cup final.
“One proud moment. What a moment for our development.”
Buckie are currently top of the Highlands and Islands League with five wins out of five and faced up to the only other side with a 100 per cent record in the league in their cup semi.
Clach had also emerged victorious in all five of their games so a close enounter was expected, but Buckie Ladies rose to the occasion.
They led 3-1 at half time before going on to seal victory after the interval.
As well as Carter’s four-goal salvo, Lori Lappin also found the net in Buckie’s famous victory.
Smith added: "What a performance from my squad today, I have never been prouder of the ladies for making club history. Our very first final!
"Every player played their part and gave their all."
In the final, Buckie will meet Sutherland who edged out Inverness Caledonian Thistle 2-1 in the other semi-final.
Smith said the final is expected to be played around June 19 at a venue to be confirmed.
