BUCKIE Ladies began their pre-season preparations in style with a thumping win over Nairn.

The Merson Park side's trip along the coast was all worth the effort as they ran out 5-0 winners.

The heat made for less than ideal footballing conditions but that did not stop up-and-coming forward Milly Findlay putting the visitors two up before half-time. She completed her hat-trick after the break, with fellow striker Rebecca McMillian adding a brace to complete a good afternoon's work for the Highlands and Islands League outfit.

Buckie Ladies manager Mel Smith said: "We were well worth our 5-0, everybody did really well and gave 100 per cent, no-one had a bad game.

"The conditions were hard with the heat plus it was our first game since November.

"We've only had a couple of weeks of contact training, so to play that well was really encouraging.

"There's things we'll have to work on in training but I'm really pleased with the performance against Nairn, the quines did really well."

It was to be an afternoon to remember for Justine Blaszk, who was named Player of the Match by Smith in what was her first ever game of football. The newcomer came off the bench early in the game and slotted into midfield, putting in a composed performance.

Smith added: "Justine only started coming to training recently, she's never played a game of football before so to perform like she did was amazing.

"As she's never played before we haven't had the chance to work out which position is best for her but she was very composed when thrown into midfield, she never gave up."

A stiffer test awaits Buckie this coming Sunday when they travel to Inverness to face Clach, kick-off 1pm.

Buckie Ladies begin their league campaign on Sunday, June 20 with an away game to Brora Rangers.
