Scottish Hockey have launched a virtual walk for their mascot, Hamish travelling from their most southern club, Berwick to their most Northern club in Shetland, to highlight club pledges and events across Scotland.

Each day they will highlight a club and each persons activities from that area.

This has inspired Ellon Ladies Hockey to get the team to do their own 'real life' 500 Miles Challenge.

Club members are being encouraged to walk, run, bike, hop or skip and track their miles and share how they are getting on with the rest of the club.

Louise Gordon, from Ellon Ladies Hockey said: “A few of us spoke about the 500 miles and then decided to put it on Facebook.

“We invited both men and juniors to join in.

“It's not really a charity event as such, more of an attempt at keeping the team motivated and active during lockdown.”

Louise is encouraging other club members to take part in the challenge throughout June: “I think we all miss being together, so it's good to keep in touch with little team challenges like this.

“Our ladies team now have now set up a club on strava and will record all the miles we do from 1st of June - we haven't set a time frame for the 500 miles, will depend how many get involved.”

When asked about future plans after lockdown Louise added: d“We haven't really organised much else during lockdown, other than the bucket challenge for a bit of fun.

“We usually take part in Peterhead's Relay for life every year - we organise all the activities.

“With this year's event being cancelled we are having to postpone our ideas until next year, but we have agreed to do a warm up dance for the online event they plan to host on the day.

“Creating and filming this dance will be our next challenge!”
