Elgin take semi final spot in extra end against Garioch in Scottish Pairs

After 12 hours of bowling, to lose in an extra end at Stonehaven, is heart breaking for Alan Rough and Lee Collins, Garioch’s pair writes Mike Barron.

Score 16-16, but Andrew Barker and Mike Stepney, who is a top World ranked bowler, had the toughest of matches.

Throughout the four hours the lead changed five times, and Garioch were leading 16-15 at last end, but Stepney scored a single to take it into that decisive end.

How the match went:-

2nd end Garioch 1 Elgin 2;10th Garioch 7 Elgin 8; 14th Garioch 12 Elgin 9; 16th Garioch 12 Elgin 13; 20th Garioch 16 Elgin 15; 21st Garioch 16 Elgin 16.

Now came the extra end and Mike Stepney with Andrew Barker (Elgin) were through.

Alan Rough and Lee Collins, the underdogs in this match, gave the Elgin pair the greatest of fights.

They matched one of the top pairs in skill and fight. They almost won and should be very proud of their performance.

Garioch is proud of Alan and Lee - Well done lads!
