Early lead proves a winning move for Garioch/Turriff ladies

Garioch/Turriff 90 - Buchan 39

A comprehensive win from the start for the home side saw all three rinks win as the combined Garioch/Turriff ladies took on Buchan writes Mike Barron.

Elizabeth Fraser had Sheila Reidford, Bronach Gillies, and Lynn Ronald, and they had a tough first five ends.

The scores were level at 3-3.

The veteran Buchan skip, Nettie Robertson, was level at 12-12 at 15th end, but from then G & T steadily scored to win by four shots 20-16.

Carla Banks, back from International duty, was never in trouble. With mother Angela as lead, they led 15-6 at 10th end. Linda Harper at 2nd , like her colleagues, had a good drawing game, and Mary Brown, Buchan skip, was always struggling to keep the score down. G & T were leading 22-8 at 15th end and they scored another 12 shots against 1 in the last six ends. The score 34-9.

Joan Western, Glenys Bolt, Alison Gillies and skip Carol Stuart raced to a 14-1 lead at 5th end, and the win from then was never in doubt.

Patti Findlay (Buchan) did just win the next five ends by a couple of shots, but again from then the G & T rink scored regularly to win 36-14.
