The long trip to Thurso on Sunday was to prove well worth it as the Merson Park outfit smashed eight passed the Orcadians without reply, making like of the blustery conditions.

Forward Emily McAuslan resumed where she left off last season with a brace, with youngsters Catie Carter also bagging a couple of goals, Joining them on the scoresheet were Abbie Marshall, Lorna Young, Lori Lapping and Caitlin Carnegie.

As a contest the match was effectively over by half-time as the visitors, making the most of having the wind behind them, thumped five past Kirkwall.

Buckie manager Mel Smith said she was delighted with the result although she was not letting the team get carried away.

She said: "It's a dream start to the season.

"It was really windy conditions, far from ideal, but it was the same for both teams.

"We actually played better football in the second half, we had to keep it on the deck as we had the wind against us.

"It was good to see the goals spread around the team and I was delighted to see so many of our young players getting on the scoresheet. Everyone played really well today although there's always room for improvement.

"We're at home on April 3 when Sutherland will be the visitors. Although we had a good win against Kirkwall City we won't be taking anything for granted; we've a tough run of fixtures coming up."

The match at Merson Park is scheduled to kick off at 12 noon.

Match sponsor for Buckie Ladies was Scotty's Bar in Buckie in memory of the late Scott Davidson.
