Goalie Kevin Main is hungry for cup success with Formartine United.

Formartine United goalkeeper Kevin Main says the Pitmedden outfit will turn their full attention to winning the Highland League Cup.

Paul Lawson’s side will face high-flying Rothes in the semi finals of the competition on Saturday, March 14.

Main told the Advertiser:“Our focus is definitely on the cup as I think we have been in the Highland League Cup final the last three or four years running.

“It would be nice to end the season with some silverware.

“Really it is preparation for next season to try and win the league.”

From the end of September until the turn of the year,

"Our focus is definitely on the cup as I think we have been in the Highland League Cup final the last three or four years running."

United failed to record a league win but now the sixth-placed side have won six out of seven since the start of January.

Main reckons that having a consistent line up has been key to them hitting form.

He said: “I think that is now 10 or 11 clean sheets for the season.

“We seem to be hitting a bit of consistency with four goals against Lossie, six against Nairn and five versus Huntly at the weekend.

“The boys are doing really well and it is probably because we have kept the same team over the last three weeks.

“It gives you that consistency and to be honest a 4-4-2 formation probably suits us a bit better.”

A shot at the title was ended by a poor run towards the end of last year, but Main believes the momentum currently being built by Formartine can stand them in good stead in terms of finishing the campaign on a high.

“It is about winning as many games as we can until the end of the season and see how far it takes us up the league,” he said.

“To be honest, the position we are at just now, we just need to take game by game.

“Obviously being so inconsistent you don’t want to set yourselves targets and not reach them.

“We are just trying to win each game from now until the end of the season.

“We don’t go out to play bad, it was just unfortunate that we hit a poor spell.”
