It was almost a clean sweep for the Banks family, representing the Inverurie Bowling Club at the weekend while Kemnay took their third trophy of the season writes Mike Barron.

Jason took the Champion of Champion title, Carla the open Benachie Singles, while mum, Angela, and dad Colin lost out in the Pairs Final to Kemnay’s Liam Thom and Ally Mitchell.

There are currently 16 Aberdeenshire Clubs in the Benachie Bowling Association and titles were as follows-

League title - Harlaw (over the summer months).

Champion of Champions - Jason Banks who beat Ian Fraser of Pitmedden 21-17.

To reach the final Billy Thom (Kemnay) was beaten 8-21 by Jason Banks (Inverurie), while Graham Low (Dyce) lost in a close match to Ian

Fraser (Pitmedden) 19-21.

Benachie Singles - Carla Banks who won over Michael Presley of Tarves 21-12.

John Thornley (Kintore) will want to forget this semi-final, as he lost 4-21 to Mike Presley (Tarves), with the fancied Carla Banks (Inverurie)

hanging on to win 21-19 against Sandy McDonald (Harlaw).

The Pairs was taken by Liam Thom and Ally Mitchell of Kemnay who beat Angela and Colin Banks 18-12.

Kemnay have now taken the Aberdeen & Kincardine Top Ten and K O Fours, a great feat for the Kemnay pair who were in all three competitions.

Kemnay beat Newhills 20-12 and to reach this stage they beat Tarves 16-15 in a last bowl win.

Colin and Angela Banks (Inverurie) were expected to win, and did so 17-14, against Pitmedden’s Collister and Geekie.

They too had a narrow victory in the previous round, beating Willox/Fraser of Harlaw 14-13.

Any match between these two Clubs is a “needle match”, and this was no exception.

The Rothienorman trio who represented the District in Scottish Finals, Ian Lonsdale, John Nicol and Matt Campbell, were surprisingly beaten in the Triples final by Newmachar 17-9 who were represented by Ian Ogg. Ian Chalmers and Steve Buchanan.

Rothie, in the semi-final beat Pitmedden 17-3. Newmachar beat Tarves 16-11.

The Fours score of 14-10 did not reflect the win for Oldmeldrum (Brian Welsh, Bill Smith, Ian Western, Brian Reid).

The match had Balgownie always playing catch up.

Thoughts of four titles for Kemnay were blown away by Pitmedden in the semi-final, who won 20-14.

The wily Brian Reid skipped the Oldmeldrum rink, who beat Newmachar 12-6.

The day attracted the biggest crowd of the season with seven Clubs fighting for the six titles.

Clubs throughout Aberdeenshire are now completing their Club finals, with the winners taking part in Aberdeen & Kincardine or Benachie

competitions next year.
