Drivers in the second round of the Grampian Kart Club Championships had to deal with mixed conditions.

The prokarts ran on Saturday afternoon in glorious sunshine at the Boyndie Drome circuit, while it was the opposite on Sunday as rain persisted all day which meant the first wet meeting for years.

The feature trophy was the Pioneer Mutual Shield for any class with a minimum of five drivers which was won by Finlay Smith of Stuartfield.

In the Prokart Light section Daniel Macrae was on pole but Matthew Payne led at the end of the first lap.

Payne maintained the lead and opened a gap of five seconds by the chequered flag. Macrae came home second with Richard Evans finishing third.

In the Prokart Heavy category pole man Josh Orr took a lights to flag victory but was under pressure all the way from Martin Stephen. Stephen was only a second back at the line.

Roy Wilson, Anatolij Dulko, Rik Christie, Roger Broughton and Dave Brown took up the chase.

Brown was the major mover getting to third on lap three and he held the position until the chequered flag.

Many changes took place and it was Wilson to come home in fourth with Scott Bruce in fifth and Broughton in sixth. The top 10 was completed by Dulko, Benjamin Stephen, Rik Christie and Mike Christie.

In the Bambinos an open meeting turned to wet after the lunch break for the finals.

The standing start for the Bambino karts in wetter conditions saw an early spin for Louis MacDonald.

Louis Pyper surged to the front and was never headed to take the victory. Munroe Stephen came second ahead of MacDonald.

In the Honda Cadets Finlay Smith had won all the heats to take pole position for the final.

Smith was to keep his record intact by taking the final victory. He had gradually opened up a six seconds gap at the chequered flag.

For this perfect score he was awarded the Pioneer Mutual Shield.

Behind was a group of four karts led by Lewis Stewart followed by Thomas Jackson, Vinnie Lewis and William Alexander.

Jackson moved to second on lap three and the order remained the same for the rest of the race.

All four crossed the line under a second apart with Jackson second followed by Stewart, Lewis and Alexander. Theo Ingram took fifth followed by Luca Bicocchi.

In the Micro Max final Lewis Kirkaldy shot away from pole position and immediately opened a gap over the field.

Sophie Ingram took up the chase but James Sims soon grabbed second. Sims was adapting to the conditions best by setting fastest laps and started closing down Kirkaldy.

By the last lap Sims was on Kirkaldy’s bumper. Kirkcaldy took the victory by a tenth from Sims. Third was Ingram who was followed home by Cooper Earsman.

In the Senior Max 162kg section Jonathan Edwards took a comfortable win from Kyle Donaldson.

Gary Scott had a couple of excursions onto the grass at Seafield that spoiled his race. Owen Cruickshank was fourth.

In the Junior Max category Aiden MacDonald at the lights charged through from third to take the lead.

Eihli Smith and Alex Hawcutt took up the chase. Hawcutt grabbed second on the second tour and took the lead on the last lap to take the chequered flag but time penalties dropped him to third in the results.

MacDonald took the victory and Smith was second. Leo Massie was fourth setting the fastest time in the final.

Sean Gracie was fifth and also took the novice trophy. The top 10 was completed by Elissa McKenzie Cormack, Jude Fraser, Mark Paterson, Kyle Smith and Duncan Ingram.
