ROTHIE Rovers have taken part in a 24-hour charity challenge after being nominated by Colony Park Juniors and Dyce Juniors.
The event involves each player and member of the management team running for an hour over a 24-hour period, and the club is one of several local teams to give it a go after Inverurie Loco Works did theirs on May 31.
After finishing, the Locos called on others to follow and clubs have been nominating each other ever since.
Rothie started their challenge at 5am and continued throughout the day to run a total of 329.43km, which gave an average of 316.30km for the squad.
The team took up the challenge in part as they have greatly appreciated the help and support from the local
community over the years and wanted to offer support back to the community.
Club chairman Brian Cormack said: “We have greatly appreciated the help and support we have received from the local community over the years and especially in the last few months in our quest to join the Junior football ranks.
“As a club, this meant a lot and we wanted to give something back to the community.
“As a thank you, we wanted to help the local kids in a time when fundraising is vitally important.
“Everybody pitched in and we even had ex-players in Dubai and London running for the club.”
The funding they have raised from all their efforts is going towards local groups and clubs including Rothienorman Pre-School, Brownies, Rainbows, Cubs and Scouts, Rothienorman Community Music Group and Inverurie Gymnastix.
Having set themselves an initial target of £1000 and the total has now reached £3400 and is still rising.
Brian added: “The way the team have motivated one and other is incredible.
“We have nominated Deveronside, Turriff Thistle and St Marnans, three clubs local to us.”
