The 25-year-old winger, signed by Forres from Buckie in May, was placed on the transfer list at the start of this week.

Huntly, who missed out on signing the player in the summer, made their move to snap Murray up on a two-year contract.

Murray's Mechanics career began in impressive fashion when he scored a hat-trick on his debut in a 4-0 win at Strathspey Thistle on the opening day of the season.

However the player has barely featured since for the Mosset Park men.

Cans’ manager Steven MacDonald said at the start of this week that a parting of the ways seemed to be the best thing for both player and club.

“It’s not worked out I’m afraid,” he said. “It’s disappointing for everyone but hopefully Callum can get a move on and start enjoying his football again.”

Huntly manager Allan Hale was quickly on the scene, with a transfer fee agreed between the clubs to sign Murray on a contract until the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

Hale said on the Huntly FC website: "Callum was someone I had identified at the end of last season as a key transfer target for us heading into the summer window.

"However by the time we had made our enquiry to Buckie he had already agreed to sign for Forres which was very disappointing at the time.

"For whatever reason it’s not quite worked out at Forres and when we were made aware of his availability, we had no hesitation in making an attempt to being him to Huntly.

"He is a player who will excite our supporters as he has an abundance of pace, is direct, hardworking and has the ability to create and score goals within the final third.

"It’s a signing we are excited about and we look forward to working with him over the coming seasons."
