Buckie Thistle will be backed by a large army of supporters at Keith's Kynoch Park for tonight's Morrison Motors Aberdeenshire Shield final against Fraserburgh.

And Jags manager Graeme Stewart wants to lift the imprssive silverware for those fans, to end their long wait for success.

It's six years since Buckie last lifted a cup, claiming a league and Aberdeenshire Cup double in the 2016-17 season.

Two Highland League Cup final defeats to Rothes and Brora Rangers in recent times have hurt Stewart and he is determined to go one better.

He knows if his team could win the Shield tonight it could be a springboard for more success with Jags in the reckoning for other silverware.

"Fingers crossed we are going to get a trophy over the line for the fans," he said.

"It is far too long since this club last won a trophy and I’m not happy with that.

"We are hoping to put that right this season, we have one opportunity and hopefully we will have another two by being in contention for the league and we also have another semi-final to look forward to in the League Cup."

Stewart knows Buckie face one of the form teams in Highland League football right now.

League champs Fraserburgh may be outsiders in this season's title chase but their 2023 form has been excellent.

Their crushing 6-0 win at Huntly in the semi-finals sparked a four-game winning run in all competitions without conceding a single goal.

And in Ryan Sargent they have a player in red hot scoring form having netted in each of his team's last five outings, scoring a total of eight goals in that period.

Broch also defeated Buckie 1-0 in the last meeting between the teams at Bellslea Park in November.

That is Jags only defeat in their last 17 outings, winning 15 of those.

So tonight's final has all the makings of a classic with neither side being obvious favourites.
