BUCKIE Ladies had the elements to battle as well as a tough Sutherland side as they continued their perfect start to the season.

Both teams were battered by the wind and the rain but the league champions nevertheless returned home clutching three precious points.

With the wind running for them in the first half, the visitors made the best of it with strikes from Lorna Young and an on-fire Emily McAuslan, her fourth goal in two games.

Sutherland pulled one back early in the second half but could not find a way through a resolute Buckie defence.

Buckie manager Laura Duncan was left pleased with the hard-fought win in the Highlands.

She said: "The weather was horrendous and that made it such a tough game.

"The wind was blowing horizontally across the park; it was with us in the first half and we made the best of it with the two goals from Lorna and Emily. Sutherland came out of the blocks quickly in the second half and pulled one back but we knuckled down.

"It was really tough and the weather made it a game of two very different halves.

"I'm delighted with the performance and the win, especially as we were without several key players."

Buckie Ladies were due to to make another foray into the Highlands this coming Sunday to take on Ross and Cromarty Woman, but this game has been postponed. Their next game will now be a home tie at Gordon Park, Portgordon, against Brora Rangers on Sunday, May 14.

While Brora may currently be the Highlands and Islands League's basement side Duncan said there was no room for complacency.

"We're not taking anything for granted, you can never be sure what'll happen on the day.

"However, we're confident of getting a win."

The extra time between games will hopefully allow to Millie Findlay to shake off the calf injury she is currently carrying.

The kick-off time has yet to be confirmed – follow Buckie Ladies' Facebook page for match details updates.
