BUCKIE Ladies have been handed the perfect boost in the run up to the League Cup final when they were declared champions for the second season in a row.

The Gordon Park side will head for Nairn County's Station Park this Sunday to face Caithness having retained their league crown.

A dramatic finale had been in store for the end of the season with Buckie leading Orkney Women by one point. However, last Sunday's cancelled game against Ross & Cromarty Women – which saw Buckie awarded a walkover win and 3-0 scoreline – was to be topped by Brora Rangers dropping out of the league. With Brora's results removed from the league standings, this left Buckie, who have now completed their league fixtures, four points ahead of Orkney, the islanders having just one game left.

It was a special moment for Buckie manager Laura Duncan, currently on holiday in the USA with her family, who has claimed the championship in what is her debut season in the hotseat.

The team are now potentially just 90 minutes away from achieving the double double should they retain the League Cup by vanquishing the Highlanders.

The game is set to kick off at 2pm. Follow Buckie Ladies' Facebook page for updates.
