DEFENDER Darryl McHardy has said he’s looking forward to winning trophies with Buckie Thistle after a successful start to his career at Victoria Park.

McHardy scored on his Jags debut against Clachnacuddin and is yet to lose a league game in green and white after a dramatic 1-1 draw with Formartine United on Saturday.

He said: “It has worked out at Buckie, we have started well in the league and I’m enjoying it and playing well. The boys are all sound and the manager is on my same wavelength.

“I’m looking forward to trying to win things here at Buckie with all the competitions we will be going for.

“Winning silverware for the first time in my career is the target, it’s different scenery and a different feeling. The league is the main thing and we have got off to a flyer so we want to keep it going.

“The Clach game was really hard to start with, there were a lot of nerves and I didn’t have a good game personally. I still scored but it wasn’t one of my best and I knew I had to get up to speed with things.

“By the Turriff game I had a really good performance and Broch away I felt I was back to my best.

“I was away for my wedding and it did affect my fitness a bit but I am getting there with every game. I only had two pre-season friendlies and hadn’t played since the start of May but Buckie training has been really intense and I’m feeling I am right up to speed now.

“The fans with all the comments on Facebook, they seem to like me so far and they will like me all the more if I keep it going.”

Buckie fell behind against Formartine on Saturday when Julian Wade opened the scoring with a 35th-minute strike.

Goalkeeper Stuart Knight was sent off with five minutes to play for handling outside the penalty area, with midfielder Jack MacIver ending the game in goal.

But Buckie still managed to find a leveller, with McHardy’s cutback being turned home by Scott Adams in the last minute.

The Jags are in action twice this weekend – against Huntly at Victoria Park in the league on Saturday and away to Elgin City in McHardy’s testimonial on Sunday. McHardy is set to play for City – who he spent 12 years at – for the final time.
