THE long trip to Brora was more than worth it for Buckie Ladies when they finished the afternoon nine goals to the good.

Buckie's rampaging start to their Highlands and Islands League campaign continued at full throttle, with keeping a clean sheet proving to be the icing on the cake in a ruthless display in front of goal.

The visitors had the game done and dusted by half time when they went in with a 5-0 lead, adding a further four without reply after the restart.

Goal machine forward Catie Carter was at it again, bagging four against Brora Rangers.

Caitlin Carnegie weighed in with a brace, while Alena Gardiner, Milly Findlay and Moira Beadle all chipped in a goal apiece.

Taking the reins in the absence of manager Mel Smith, who was unable to travel due to work commitments, was coach Laura Duncan. Due to having a number of players unavailable, Duncan had to come out of retirement and pull on her boots again for an 85-minute stint.

Duncan was left delighted with team's devastating display.

She said: "We really dominated in the first half and we were really comfortable by the break with a 5-0 lead.

"We passed the ball really well and kept possession. It was boiling hot so it was one of those days when you have to let the ball do the running for you.

"Brora came out in the second half with a bit of fire in their bellies and caused us a few defensive problems. However, we kept our composure and saw out the game with a 9-0 win.

"One of our main aims was to keep a clean sheet so I'm delighted we achieved that."

The victory sees Buckie retain their place on top of the Highlands and Islands League, unbeaten after six games. The game meant a continuation of a miserable season for Brora, who languish at the bottom of the table having yet to claim a point after seven games.

However, there will be no time to rest on their laurels for the Merson Park outfit, who will be on their travels again this Sunday when they head to the Highland capital to face third placed place Clach, who are also unbeaten and have a game in hand on Buckie.

Duncan said: "This is a huge game for us, really. really massive.

"Hopefully we'll have a full squad to choose from on Sunday."

The game is scheduled to kick off at 12 noon. For updates on match details and training evenings, visit Buckie Ladies facebook page.
