Cammy Bowden has called for patience from the Turriff United faithful as the youthful squad continues to brew away.

Away from the pitch, he has been running successful Brew Toon a brewery based in Peterhead for the last two years.

Now he believes that the club will come to fruition like his business if they keep their talented team together.

United currently sit second bottom in the league table with only 8 points on the board.

The United captain is disappointed with the season so far but understands that it takes time for the young players to develop.

He said: “It has been pretty disappointing so far and obviously not where we would have like to or hope to be in the league.

“We know a lot of work is to be done and we have a really young squad that has a lot of potential.

“It is a good responsibility being captain and I enjoy it.

“It can be difficult as with a younger squad there will always be more mistakes.

“We have got to have a bit of patience and understand it could take a bit of time for things to gel properly.

“But when the team does gel I’m sure Turriff will be in a very good position moving forward.”

Turriff’s record appearance holder first joined the club on loan in August of 2009 before making the move permanent the next year from Peterhead during the manager Kris Hunter’s first spell in charge of the club.

The defensive mainstay acknowledges times have changed with star players like Liam Strachan and Paul Young leaving to join Formartine United
and Fraserburgh in recent years.

He added: “I think this is season number 11 for me and I have been here from the word go in the Highland League.

“We have had quite good seasons.

“We have had really good players and it is a little bit frustrating to see some of these guys move to teams that have done really well.

“Some have went to Fraserburgh and Formartine.

“I’m disappointed to see them leave Turriff and I guess we are in a different position just now.

“We maybe don’t have the finances we used to have and need to be patient.

“I’m sure if we keep this group of players the good times will come back to Turriff.”

Bowden knows that United need to cut out “silly” goals from their game if they are to improve.

He said: “There is a lot of talent in the squad and I am sure moving forward it is going to be a bright future for these lads.

“It has been really disappointing from a defence point of view that’s what I really pride myself on.

“I have been lucky to be on teams that have had the best defensive record in the league.

“It is really frustrating for me conceding so many goals but we just need to keep working hard in training and that will come.

“We need to start to improve and cut out silly goals.

“We maybe need to be a bit more street wise and need to break down play when other teams are attacking us.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s away fixture to Inverurie, he added: “It is going to be a real test for us as they are a really good team and have a lot of good attacking players.

“We have to go there and make it tough for them.”
