Aberdeen & Kincardine Bowling Association almost defeated the new North Champions in the Inter County Championships, Bon Accord writes Mike Barron.
They just lost 115-117.
It was a nail biting last end with three rinks keeping their win while A & K lost three, two heavily.
Colin Banks rink had a fine 26-10 win and they were always ahead.
Andy Duncan's rink was scoring regularly throughout and won 31-9.
Mike Mennie at 3rd had probably his best match of the season having played in all seven games.
James Harper rink won 16-14, with the game going to the last end, when A & K took two shots to win.
Jason Banks fought to the finish, but lost by two shots 20-22.
Liam Thom had an experienced team of Eric Hay, Doug Fraser and Mark Campbell, but were always fighting to keep the score down.
They lost 15-27.
Fergus Muat must wish they had scored and played better, especially when the A & K overall only lost by two shots. They lost by the biggest rink margin this year, 7-35.
While A & K had only honour to play for on Saturday, Bon Accord needed at least one point from the match to win the north title as they had a large “shots for”, some 80 ahead of the second.
They finished with 11 points.
Five wins, a draw against Northern Counties109-109, and a defeat in their first match against Perthshire 113-117. They had to win against A & K because Angus beat Dundee 131-110, and Highland beat Northern Counties 115-102. Both finished on 10 points and 5 wins.
While A &a K had won only three matches and lost four, they had some very close defeats, and should regard the season as “successful and must do better”.
