BUCKIE Thistle manager Graeme Stewart is looking for a reaction from his team in the Scottish Cup first round after a “poor” performance in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against Banks O’ Dee.
The Jags will travel to junior side Tayport on Saturday looking to recover from a defeat that saw them slip to fourth in the Highland League.
Goals from Mark Gilmour and Max Alexander were enough to give the hosts all three points, before Andy MacAskill was sent off after receiving two bookings for dissent.
“We didn’t play well enough,” Stewart said. “It was a poor performance from us so we need to take stock of it, learn from it and move onto the next game.
“You are always going to get results like that. Against Keith the performance was reasonable but Saturday wasn’t good enough.
“Defensively we made mistakes, up front we didn’t create enough and in midfield we lost the battle.
“It’s important we get the confidence back on Saturday, it’s important for the club financially and it’s important we get our rhythm back.
“We have had Tayport watched and have got a report on them. So we will do our homework and put a plan in place.”
Stewart was disappointed with MacAskill’s red card, which came with the score at 2-0.
“He’s got two bookings for talking back to the referee, so he’s let himself down and the team down,” he said.
“But we have got to remember how good he has been for three or four years.
“I’ve been in that position myself getting sent off for dissent. The referee has got to use some common sense, be a bit smarter and give him a last warning – the ref didn’t have his best game on Saturday.
"There was a stonewall penalty that he never gave us and he gave them a soft, dubious one. The officials didn’t have their best game but nor did we.”
MacAskill will be available for Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie and suspended for Nairn at home in the league.
