There was some Banffshire success at Grampian Kart Club's latest meeting at their Boyndie Drome circuit.

Sunday saw the second round of the ASKC Championships draw a large entry of 94 drivers, all enjoying favourable conditions with sunshine breaking through after some light rain in the morning.

Feature trophies of the day were the Andrew Borton Memorable Quaich for the gearbox winner and Kenny Mackay Shield for the best GKC driver from Cadet and Junior Max classes.

Banff's Sophie Ingram and Whitehills' Cooper Earsman were both in strong contention in the Micro Max event, though it was Kelty's Frazer Anderson who took the lead from the lights and was never headed to take the victory by six seconds.

Anderson had reduced the class lap record to 42.782 sec. on heat one. Ingram took up the chase with Lewis Kirkaldy (St Andrews) and Earsman, with Kirkaldy getting to the inside of Ingram at gate corner on lap ten.

However Ingram regained the position later in the lap and held on for second with Earsman third and Kirkaldy fourth.

Aberchirder's Steven Duncan took up the chase in the Senior Max 162kg race after Larbert's John Knox made the charge from fourth in the grid to lead at the end of the first lap.

After several karts were off near the start line, a battenberg flag was shown and the field did a single file lap until they got the green flag to race again. However the order of top four did not change with Knox taking the victory followed by Duncan in second, Strathhaven's Steven Napier in third and fourth-placed Andrew Harvie (Newton Mearns).

Turriff's Robert Strachan and Huntly's Greg Moir were determined to do well when the KZ Gearbox karts found their grid slots.

The lights went out and pole-man Ben Macleod took the lead from Strachan, Moir and Darren Allan. The British driver began to move taking Strachan and Moir, before taking Macleod into pit corner lap 4.

However he slowed and was out as the result of a broken throttle cable. Macleod was back in the lead but Peterhead's Reece Duthie, who had broken the lap record to 31.920 seconds earlier, was slicing through the field.

Macleod put his rear wheel of the tarmac causing him to crash out at gate corner. Duthie took the lead and took the victory by four seconds. Moir was second and Strachan took third.

In the Bambinos, Louis Pyper led from the standing start but Louis MacDonald took the lead on the second lap. The race became spread with no further changes as MacDonald took the victory with Pyper second and Jack Elder third.

A large grid of 19 Honda Cadets were led away by Thomas Jackson, and once the race settled down a trio of Jackson, Ryan White and Oliver Newall had opened a gap.

Archie Cannon and Finlay Smith closed them down and Leven driver Cannon took the lead on lap ten from Jackson and White. On the last lap there was a reshuffle with White coming through to take the victory. Second was Jackson and third, Smith.

There was a small field for the new Mini Max 950 class and a new lap record was established by Polmont's Jonathan Furby in heat 1 - 40.155 seconds - while Zac Mackay led the early laps from Furby and David Hiorns. The leading two switched positions on lap five as Furby went on to the chequered flag from Mackay and Hiorns by a second.

Driver of the day had to be Glasgow's Matteo Palazzo in the Junior Max.

The 25-kart grid in this ten-minute final saw Rhys Baillie leading away from the lights going out. Alex Hawcutt nabbed the lead at pit corner and a lap later Max Taylor grabbed second with the same move.

Taylor took the lead from Hawcutt at gate corner on lap eight. Palazzo was beginning to slice through the pack from a grid spot of tenth. By lap three he was seventh, fifth on lap eight and third three laps later.

Grabbing second at gate corner on lap 15 from Hawcutt, a classic manoeuvre at pit corner took the lead and the victory. Taylor was second with Hawcutt, third.

In the Senior Max 177kg, pole man Stewart McLennan (Loanhead) led from light to flag. Jonathan Shearer slotted into second followed by Chris Waddell and Jay Mackay. Waddell moved to second at Kevin’s Korner on lap two. No further changes took place with the final order being McLennan, Waddell, Shearer and Mackay.
