PLAYERS and staff members at Banff Rovers have come together to surprise a local six-year-old who is going through chemotherapy.

Carter Gordon (6), from Aberchirder, is half way through two years of chemo for Langerhans cellhistiocytosis.

Banff Rovers player Alex Charlton, who was diagnosed with stage two Hodgkins lymphoma but got the all-clear in April, wanted to surprise the youngster and help him through chemo.

Alex presented Carter with a full Banff Rovers kit at the weekend, and the team and staff came together to make a four-minute long video wishing him all the best.

After lockdown, Carter will attend a match as mascot.

Mum Shelley Gordon (38) is more than thankful for everything the club and Alex have done for her son.

She said: “Alex was raising some money for charity after he got diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma. I pinged him some money and we have kept in touch.

“He is just an inspiration, he is so positive, he really is.

“Alex asked what Carter’s favourite colour is and when I said blue he said that’s perfect and gave him their football strip. They made a video wishing him well and once football is back he can be a mascot for them.

“Carter has watched the video so many times and will go along as mascot once things have calmed down.

“I just want to say thanks so much to Alex and Banff Rovers for making a little boy so happy.”

Below, the squad's message to Carter and Carter's thank you message to the squad.

In his message, Alex said to Carter: “I want to wish you all the best for the rest of your treatment. I know it can be hard sometimes but a strong little man like you? You’ve got this. Just keep fighting and smiling. Everyone at Banff Rovers is rooting for you.”

Carter bought the squad some sweeties as a thank you.
