INVERURIE Locos manager Andy Low reckons cup foes Broxburn Athletic would have the quality to hold their own in the Highland League.

The Railwaymen take on the West Lothian side with a place in the hat alongside the Scottish Cup's big boys up for grabs.

Low has already been on a spying mission to watch the East of Scotland outfit, who are enjoying their first ever Scottish Cup foray having moved from the Junior ranks almost 18 months ago.

Despite technically being in a lower tier of the pyramid system than Locos, Broxburn are intent on working their way up the ranks, having dumped out League Two Cowdenbeath of the competition already.

Inverurie are the bookies' favourites for the tie but the Harlaw gaffer reckons they will be in for a tough ride.

“I went down to watch Broxburn on the Wednesday night after they beat Cowdenbeath", he said.

“They are a good side, they're a typical Junior side from that direction, quite big, quite physical.

“But they also play a lot of good football, they play on astroturf and won 5-1 on the night (against Newtongrange Star).

“I would say they'd comfortably be a top six Highland League side so we know it will be a difficult game on the day.

He continued: “Locos haven't done too well in the Scottish Cup in the last few years so it's good we're getting ourselves into a position where we could potentially get into the next round.

“We know it will be a difficult game, it's a home draw and certainly a winnable tie if we peform as we have been of late."

Low believes that Locos should have had greater reward for their efforts in the League Cup defeat to Formartine last weekend and added: “I certainly think we deserved more.

“I don't know if we deserved to win the game but I certainly don't think we deserved to get beat.

“Both teams on the day cancelled each other out.

We had more chances than what they did but in the end, that one bit of quality won it and Formartine got it.

“I'm not too downhearted as I thought the performance was okay and we competed well.”
