The summer sun shone on Rothienorman as A&K faced Highland.

Aberdeen & Kincardine Bowling Association in the Inter County Championship lost heavily against Highland who are now North league leaders following Angus losing surprisingly to Bon Accord writes Mike Barron.

A & K are now fifth in an eight team regional section and they next meet Northern Counties.

In a temperature of 23 centigrade, A & K at Rothienorman green started hesitantly and were 12-27 at the 4th end, but had closed the score to 45-52 at the 10th.

From then Highland, bowling better, went on to win by 136 to 93, a 43 score difference.

A surprising result when at 10th end James Harper was leading 10-4, and Mark Campbell was up 11-1.

No A & K rink won, although Jason Banks drew 18-18, with Tom Dow (Kincardine o’Neil), Gary MacDonald (Inverurie) and Marshall Presley (Tarves) on his rink.

They were 3-11 down at the 7th end, but played some fine drawing bowls from then, and drew their contest.

Mark Campbell, on his own green, had a great start and built up a healthy lead of 11-1 at the 7th end, but from then he regularly lost shots to lose by 9 at 23-32.

James Harper (Rothienorman) with Ian Jaffray (Harlaw), Steve Buchanan (Newmachar), Steven Fraser ( Pitmedden) had some fine early bowls building up a 10-4 lead at the 7th end.

From then they scored but 6 more shots against 17 to lose 16-21.

Mike Mennie (Pitmedden) never got going and was 2-10 down at the 7th end and he lost 10-23.

Andy Duncan (Tarves) with an experienced third Fergus Muat (Harlaw), will not wish to dwell on the first half of the match being 0-10, but they did fight back to score 9 shots. They lost 9-18.

Colin Banks (Inverurie) has had a good season so far, but he had a close match throughout after a poor start of 3-7 at 7th end.

Pushing to catch up the team found it difficult to get shots, and finally went down 17- 24.

Next comes Northern Counties this coming weekend.
