Inverurie green and basking in sunshine, with a large number of spectators present, saw a fine bowling match at the weekend writes Mike Barron where the final score was Aberdeen & Kincardine 113 - Dundee 118.
It has not been a good start to the season for A&K as they have now won one and lost two.
They lost to Angus 114-119 and beat Buchan 122-114
A & K started well with a 20 shot lead early in the match, but at the half way stage Dundee came back to be 62-61 down.
From then the match just turned in Dundee’s favour, although with a bit of luck the result could still have gone A & K’s way at the final end.
The surprise of the day was the performance of the Jason Banks (Inverurie) rink who were never in front.
On paper he had a good rink with Liam Thom (Kemnay), Geoff Allen (Pitmedden) and Marshall Presley (Tarves). The front end had a poor early performance, and Banks had to fire twice in an attempt to reduce shots.
After six ends his score was 4-9 down, and they were never nearer than five shots throughout.
They lost heavily by 11 shots - the score 8-19.
The Doug Fraser (Harlaw) rink had a close game, but could not do better than 10-14 i.e four shots down at half way.
The final score 20-24.
Andy Duncan (Tarves), on rink 3, had Fergus Muat (third), and the pair had a fine drawing game, scoring regularly.
They were 14-8 up at end 7 and they went on to win 21-15.
Liam Beattie (Harlaw), John Thorley (Kintore) and Mike Mennie (Pitmedden) with Matt Campbell (Rothienorman) skip on rink 4 had the match of the day.
They were 8-14 down at 9th end, and then came the fight back.
All four playing raised their game from then.
The drawing of the front end was good with Campbell left with a draw at most ends.
When level Brunton (Dundee) was struggling, and A & K took advantage. They won 22-19.
Rink 5 had Steven Fraser (Pitmedden) as skip. The rink were 14-11 up at 1 th end, but let things slip from then. They lost 19-24.
Colin Banks (Inverurie) rink raced ahead from the start and moved 12-4 ahead.
At no stage were they under pressure, and although they lost a few ends they had a comfortable win 23-17.
