Formartine Area Committee will discuss a planning application to extend Tarves Youth Hall, known locally as The Hut, when they meet tomorrow (Tuesday).

The hall, on Kirk Brae, is a popular meeting place in the village and the submitted alterations would improve accessibility as well as increased storage facilities.

Currently a building of two parts, the application seeks to replace the current entrance with a new vestibule-style entrance to the south-west of the main building which would improve access for prams and buggies.

The existing outbuilding would be replaced with a new building which would suit the storage requirements the hall's various regular users.

The two buildings would be connected by a covered area to protect items when being transported between storage and use.

None of the proposals would impact on the level of parking currently available at the facility.

Some amendments have been made to the application since it was first submitted, including the materials used for guttering, walls and fittings as well as maintaining the commemorative plaque and a reduction of the amount of space available for community art.

While no individual representations were received by Aberdeenshire Council's planning department the local community council did originally object to the proposal for mostly aesthetic reasons (prior to the amendments made by the applicant).

As the application fits with the Local Development Plan it is anticipated that it will be approved by councillors.
