Lower Speyside Young Farmers Club members give blood

A GROUP of Moray young farmers donated blood en masse last night as part of their commitment to community and charity work.

Nine members of the Lower Speyside Young Farmers Club went along to Forres Community Centre last night to give blood.

Dentistry student Eve Newlands (19), the group's assistant secretary, said: "We are keen to get more involved in the community and with charity work so this is the start of our efforts."

Eve, from Clunie Farm between Rafford and Dallas, said: "The club itself is a charity and we try to do things for other charities.

"We haven't been able to hold our dinner dance this year – usually from that we raise money for another charity. So we thought giving blood was a relatively easy thing we could do, all of us, to try to give back to the community."

After holding a successful new members night last week the club looks likely to significantly boost its current 32-strong membership over the next month.

The group will hold a shearing night on June 25 at which a couple of members will pass on their skills.

The club's next fundraiser will be a charity duck race at Dallas, on June 26.

A farming background is not required to join Lower Speyside Young Farmers Club, which covers Buckie to Forres for people aged between 14-30 years old.
