Young Aberdeenshire dancer set to STRUT her freestyle dance moves in Aberdeen Dance Live Festival





A young Aberdeenshire dancer is set to join the line-up of performers in STRUT - a night time outdoor performance and mobile projection parade taking place in Aberdeen on Thursday and Saturday.

STRUT has been created by visual theatre makers MHz and comes to Aberdeen as part of City Moves’ Dance Live Festival of contemporary dance.

It features five local dancers whose personal choreographies reflect the celebratory energy of the city with Ballroom, Pop, Highland Dancing, Latin and Freestyle dance styles in the mix.

STRUT which runs from 7pm – 8pm on both evenings is designed as a procession of outdoor dance performances partnered with stunning large scale building projections for audiences to encounter from the streets.

These talented movers and shakers were selected from a wide-ranging Open Call, with the help of a community panel.

The rotating one-performer parade weave its way around the city centre with spectators watching from the pavement, waving from their windows or following the event and dancing along, starting at the Green then Hadden St, Correction Wynd, St Nicholas Lane, St Nicholas Square, and St Nicolas St.

Performing is 10 year old Lily, from Cuminestown whose proud mum Lara Fraser said: "Our daughter Lily is a dancer and landed a huge audition recently to performance on the streets in Aberdeen in a live projection light performance this Thursday and Saturday evening

"It’s a huge opportunity and one we would love Turriff to be a part of it.

"From a early age she dabbled in lots of different activity’s from football, swimming, highland dance, ballet, gymnastics she even tried horse riding all which lead her to find Freestyle Dancing.

"From just four years old she began the fun beginner classes and quickly fell for the style of dance, she was a year later asked to join the competitive team and has since never looked back, she currently trains at her studios in Longside and Aberdeen almost 14+ hours a week and travels across the UK attending freestyles biggest competitions.

"She dedicates all her free time to dance and even has her own dance room at home to practise when not attending her classes."

On her commitment to the art form Lilly said: “Dance is my whole entire world, I feel inspired when I dance, i feel happy when I dance and I hope that one day I can inspire other’s to dance and feel how I do.

"Being a part of STRUT production I am so excited to show people why I dance, and through my dance how it makes me feel so inspired."
