A young motocross rider from Banff is set to feature in the British Arenacross Championship when it comes to the north-east next weekend.

Kian McGill (12) will compete as a wildcard entry in the event which will take place at P&J Live on Saturday, January 28 and Sunday, January 29.

Kian is getting ready to compete in the British Arenacross Supermini class 85cc 12-15 years, which will be one of the greatest experiences of his motocross career to date with a huge crowd in attendance.

A pupil at Banff Academy, he has been working extremely hard in his off-season training to improve on last year’s eighth position overall in the Scottish Motocross Championship. This was despite a crash and missing two championship rounds due to injury.

Arenacross will be something completely different for Kian, who is used to outdoor motocross circuits.

It is an indoor track with tight corners, berms, jumps and rhythm type obstacles which will be exciting for riders and the crowds alike

Kian has had to travel to England to practice on an Arenacross style track as there are no facilities of this type in Scotland.

He has been riding since the age of five and racing since he turned six. He has achieved many race wins and podium places which has amounted to a significant trophy haul over the years.

It has also involved many hours of travel in the van all over the UK.

Kian said: "I would like to thank my family and sponsors for making competing a reality for me and I am extremely grateful for their continued support for the 2023 season and beyond."

He is supported by CKM Designs; Morse Motors Carnoustie; Fletchers Rebuilds; The Broken Fiddle café; KRT Motorhome Hire; Fraxus Barbers; WG Electrical Solutions and RYO Joinery.

Arenacross is a show like no other. It’s a high-octane mix of indoor motocross racing and freestyle motocross (FMX).

The fast-paced tour has been thrilling crowds up and down the UK for several years and has staged more than 60 adrenaline-fuelled shows, entertaining more than 250,000 fans in the process. This is the first time it has come to the north-east.

Thousands of tons of dirt will be sculpted to transform the P&J Live arena floor into a full-on indoor race track with huge turns and jumps designed for non-stop racing.

Leading indoor motocross athletes from around the world descend on the UK for the high-profile winter series which has qualifying races and then main finals.

The racing is interspersed with FMX which takes places some 60ft in the air when a group of riders fly off a huge ramp over a platform in the centre of the arena and pull off impressive tricks.
