World Mental Health day was the theme taken by guest Ian Dow at the gathering in the Friendship room, Kemnay village hall.

President of Aberdeen St Nicholas Rotary, Ian concentrated on local and national mental health issues.

He said:"Anxiety and Depression can often be tackled with simple approaches.

"Deep breathing and gentle exercise can be a great help."

He began his working life training as a mental health nurse and has since concentrated on working in the community.

He has also tackled his own issues with anxiety with diet, appreciating the peace and beauty of Nature and making the effort to connect with other people, one-to-one or with a group.

Keeping a diary and writing down ones problem can also be therapeutic he explained and he is personally still convinced laughter is one of the best medicines.

Ian is also patron of the charity Books Abroad and has been instrumental in the sending of container-loads of books and other educational and medicinal needs to Africa and, most recently to the Ukraine.
