Works starts on two Huntly community site upgrade projects
Work has begun this week on two projects in the Huntly area which will see upgrades and updates at two popular facilities.
At the Huntly Nordic and Outdoor Centre work is underway on stripping the old ski hill, ready for enlargement and upgrade.
A spokesperson for the team said: "Please be aware that construction vehicles may be driving to and from the centre during this work which we expect to take most of November and we hope to be fully open again by early December.
"We will still be able to run scheduled ski and roller ski sessions, but obviously no tubing.
"Felling of trees is planned to take place on November 12,13 and 14.
"We will be completely closed on those days and there may be restrictions to general public access on the paths around Huntly Nordic and Outdoor Centre for safety.
"We look forward to welcoming everyone with a big day of Fun activities on Sunday, December 10 which will include our annual ski sale.
"Also if any sports clubs or individuals are looking for used matting, please get in touch.
"We are happy to donate but removal and transport would need to be timely and at your expense."
Meanwhile over at Greenmyres, Huntly Development Trust (HDT) announced this week that contractor, James Hall Joinery is starting work on phase 1 of the family-friendly adventure tourism facilities at the site.
These comprise a changing room/shower block, with ancillary drainage, paths, water supply and wastewater treatment system to support increased site usage.
CRC Contractors will be installing a cycle pump track at the same time with all work scheduled to be complete by mid/late March 2024.
It does mean that access to Greenmyres will be restricted during the construction period to ensure the Health and Safety of all.
HDT are seeking to retain as much public access to Greenmyres as is safe and practical. However, there will be times when access may not be possible at all, or severely restricted, especially in the shorter, darker days when visibility is poorer.
For now, as construction starts, the Greenmyres access situation is as follows-
The car park remains open, as do the footpaths leading round the pond and the wider site.
The external toilet and sink areas at the Ecobothy are now locked and inaccessible as they are part of the site’s welfare facilities for the contractor.
Booking enquiries for the Greenmyres Ecobothy are still welcome. If you have any queries, please contact hdt@huntly.net.
